Haw flakes

Haw flakes are made from the haw fruit. They are available as thin red flakes the size and shape of a 2cm rounded shape. They are manufactured in China and are sold in most local sweet shops. They have a sweet and sour taste and are favorite with most children.

Hoisin sauce

A thick, deep brown, sweet sauce that is often served as a condiment with roast meats. Sold in bottles, it keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator. It may be labeled barbecue sauce. There is no substitute for hoi sin sauce - omit from the recipe if you cannot obtain it.
